Hi guys,

Complete newbie here. Have obtained dsl (officially) on cd and I can drop it into the cd slot, boot-up and get all working onscreen, EXCEPT I cannot get the dsl to find and use either of my modems. I know one is a windumb unit, and unlikely to work. The other external unit is usable with arachne and DOS to access browse and e-mail, so I am assuming this will be ok with dsl?

I've also found that the "tone/pulse" screen goes into an endl;ess loop type thing, when I enter tone, I can move through to the end (summaryof settings) screen, but dsl goes back to the tone/pulse select screen and thru . . . and thru. . . ?

Any thoughts on any of the above or below anyone?

Question 1) Is this the right place to ask?

Question 2) I'm such a newbie, I have to ask, should I be telling dsl where to find a "driver" a la dos or winblows?

Regards

Mel

What version of DSL do you have? Are you starting from System->Net Setup->dial-up PPP->config?

Hi Robert,

Using 0.7.1 recd just two days ago by mail from US. And yes, going in as you suggest, sys>set-up>PPP>cfig.

The only way that I see that behavior is by pressing return at the top of summary screen. Instead at that screen you must scroll down to and select Finished Write Files and return to main menu option.

Hi Roberts,

Duuh! Yes that's the answer. I was just selecting the "ok" and pushing enter. I've been able to do a wee bit of surfing using the "Dillo" set-up.

Haven't done anything with e-mail yet, still trying to figure out all the bits on Dillo.

I thank you again, I'm off to look at other topics on the board to see if there are solutions there for the problems I'm sure to find? GRIN 8>)

Regards
