Thank you ''larkl'' to take your time to help me out with that problem.
I have a Dell Computer running XP-PRO SP2, which has been used to configure a Linksys Cable/DSL Router, which is connected to a SpeedStream DSL modem always on and connected to a phone line.
My second computer, the HP, has WinMe installed on it. I used to have Fedora Core 2 on it also. When I did install Fedora, I recall that the connection with the DSL modem and to my ISP has been quite straightforward. At that time I was not using a Router.
I can access Internet for WinMe through the router without any problem, meaning that the router and the DSL modem seem to work fine also on the HP side.
But if I boot from the Dams Small Linux (lets call it DSLinux to avoid confusion with the DSL Modem) located on a CD-R (iso), the OS is able to see the eth0 card.
The OS writes on the top right screen something like box 192.168.1.101 which is the second connection on the router, the first one being the Dell XP.
Then, I go right click to select system;netsetup;ppp0Econf. A first window shows up and I get a serie of questions on a few more windows. I answer YES to all of them, to finally arrive at a request for a username.
I type the same name that I do use either on my WinMe or Win XP popup window for connecting to the ISP.
The name looks like name@domainname.com. I click Return, then I am invited to enter my password. As for WinMe and XP I enter the same password. Then click return. The DSLinux asks if I want to boot with it and also if I want to start a session right away. I choose YES. Then the ppp0Econf window shut off.
I go to Apps; Net; Browsers; Firefox; but cannot link to the Internet.
I have try Pon instead of pp0Econf since there is a readme window by Damn Small Linux that says you may be already connected to Internet so just use pon to access it then poff to turn it off. It does not help. I have also try the DHCL for getting an automated IP. I didn't help either.
I hope that those information will help you a bit more, to figure out a solution.
Again thank you very much for your interest and kind assistance.
