hmmm... OK, I tried adding alias eth0 3c59x to modules.conf after following your instructions to make the file writeable/backupable wasn't sure where to put the line so I put it at the end. No luck with firefox, so I rebooted, thinking maybe it had to take effect on startup. Came back fine- line still in the file. But, still not connecting. when I modprobe 3c59x now I also get the message: Note: /etc/modules.conf is more recent than /lib/modules/2.4.26/modules.dep
So maybe I need to do something with that file? or maybe I need to move my alias eth0 3c59x to another place in my modules.conf file? or maybe there is a better way to make the necessary changes?
Thank you
