Hi,
I have an old IBM thinkpad i1452 (P2 333) that I aquired from work. I had xUbuntu running on it and the wireless card working as well. But I wanted something a bit quicker/snappier. And I always liked the DSL project. So... I installed 2.2b.

Works great... Just not the wireless card. I know the card will work with the madwifi drivers (had them working almost autmatically in ubuntu).

I understand 2.2.b+ has the madwifi modules in the kernel already(?). If so they don't recognize the card (from ctrl panel it says 'no adapter installed').

And I can't seem to find the /opt/madwifisetup.sh script mentioned in the forums. Was it removed since it is now in the kernel??

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

d.

Can you tell us the make and model number of the card? It helps to trace down issues because SMC is notorious for putting a different chipset in each of their cards every revision/week/phase of the moon.

Sorry about that.. Of course that would help out a bit.

it is a SMC card.. the model escapes me write now (at work) but I will check that out tonight. It was (or at least it worked with) the Atheros chipset drivers (madwifi)

I hope that could give you a clue. Is there something I can at least try out tonight...

I guess I shoudl mention I have it at my gfriends place and she has no (gasp) internet connection. I am using the cafe's next door's free access. But I can bring it into work (or home) to do some more troublshooting if need be.

much thanks again,
d.

EDIT: The exact model number is "Smcwcb-g"

I will check the chipset under Ubuntu to double check Athero.

I am still looking for any suggestions (point me in a direction) to help me with this. :)

And some more info on the Wifi card:

Chipset:ATHEROS 5212
Interface:Cardbus (32)
Antenna Connector:Integrated (no Antenna)
Device Information:manfid:0x0271,0x0012
Notes: OK with Slackware 10.0 Kernel 2.4.29 && madwifi 2005-07-07 NOT WITH LATEST (surprisingly). The latest version keeps complaining about "wifi0: no wireless extensions", whereas version 20050707 works well (and calls the device ath0, as I expected). The URL below is for SMCWCBT-G (see the final "T"). Strangely enough, I have not found my very card.
URL: http://www.smc.com/index.c....id=1448

cheers,
d.

You might try DSL-2.1b and the madwifi.dsl package.
