If you want to share files located on your linux machine, you need to install samba server on your linux.
Then, your XP will see your linux "as a windows server".

In a different manner, on your XP, you define the directories that you want to share,
and on the linux (I don't remember the name of the program,
something like "server neighbourhood") with this right program,
you can mount the shared directories.
