I can't get the standard issue ppp dialer to init the Lucent n a Toshiba 2655 laptop.

The Lucent Winmodem is detected at bootup. I installed wvdial.dsl, and it finds and maipulates the modem OK, but the gui dialer never takes the modem off hook.

What is the proper syntax in the ppp dialer config for "port"? Should it contain the full path (/dev/modem or /dev/ttyS14) or some abbreviation of that?

Is there any additional connection debugging capability I can enable?

Thanks,

rickbol

Let me get this straight, you are using a mydsl extension to dial and connect but expect the ppp gui to disconnect? If you use the ppp gui to dial, it provides all messages during the connection. ppp gui uses the provider to disconnect.
If wvdial.dsl cannot provide a disconnect, perhaps a poff -a will.
