Is there a howto somewhere on how to get this card working? Ive been trying all kinds of things, various iwconfig commands and using the DSL scripts to get this card to work, but i still feel like im fumbling in the dark or missing something. Whats the basic procedure?

Your card should work out of the box, with little or no config (it has a prism2 chipset) - from http://damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/Verified_Wireless_Cards

I suppose you just need to config it.  See the DSL panel on the desktop, and try Wlanconfig

The netgear MA401 is one of the easier cards to use.
You can use the Iwconfig gui in the control panel to setup.
If using wep then enter a colon between each pair of digits, i.e.,
99:88:77:66:...
