I am NOT using the Live CD instead I installed the CD to my hard drive.

I am able to boot into the OS without a problem however I have no network connectivity.

The symtoms are

1) DHCP failing to get an IP
2) If I assign myself a staic IP, Gateway and DNS info I can then ping myself but no other machine and can not ping any internet address
3) I have checked DMESG and my card is reconized. I have tried a 3c509B and now a Belkin PCI 10/100 card.

Any assitance is appreciated

I'm thinking a problem with your router. If your card is detected, I can't see any other reason DHCP would fail.

What is the output of "ifconfig"? Can you ping 4.2.2.2? That's Level 3's DNS Server. Always up, and easy to remember.

Is this a wired network? Also, check your cables. Make sure your ethernet card(s) is lighting up. Are the lights on your card and router okay/normal?
