I guess the question should be: how is your physical setup like?

Your windows machine (M1) is now the NAT/routing device, and your DSL machine (M2) should be attached to it.
Using dial-up or whatever ISP should be transparent to the client systems.

So... in other words, is your physical layout like: [modem] -- [M1] -- [M2] ?

M1, the WinXP box, has the modem and I'm directly connecting to M2, the DSL box, with a crossover cable through the ethernet NICs

-how did you connected those 2 clients? by using static IP?
-How bout auto dhcp on DSL machine?
-if both method can connect the machine to each others but still no internet, please look into DNS "/etc/resolv.conf"

So your physical setup sounds fine.  I'm assuming 2 NICs in M1?

Does your DSL machine get an IP address? If so, can you ping your gateway (M!)?

I'm using static IPs. M1 has one NIC, and pinging is successful.
I appreciate your comments, I have discovered a few areas to poke around in that I was unabe to find before.
I was hoping for some resource that could explain step by step this configuration.
