Is there a step by step guide to setting up wireless in DSL
Once I get it working with no security then I'll look at WPA, but for now, just to get it working on an open wifi.

DSL 3.3, Netgear wg511t,

I'm not even sure what I should run and in what order,

Netcardconfig says no supported network cards found

PCMCIA tool sees the card as Atheros and in 'status' sees it as function :0 ready, but in ident sees it a function :6 network

Iwconfig doesn't seen to remember what I type in if i return to it

I'm a bit lost as to what I should be doing and am scrambling around in the dark. Do I wok from the control panel or do I need to edit certain configuration files? I looked in the wiki, faq and forum but can't find a simple guide, can anyone help me, thanks.

The lights on the wg511t indicate it is plugged in (1 of them on) but have not started to blink to show trying to establish a connection. It works fine in win98, so it is a working card.

If I've missed some giudes, please post some links, thanks.

EDIT: from http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....hl=wifi

sudo ifconfig ath0 up
has kicked the wg511t into action  :D

I'm not connected yet but both lights on the wg511t are flashing and iwlist ath0 scan shows me my access point.

I'm on the way, but if anyone has any good guides for dsl wireless (for a beginner), it would be appreciated. I'll update as I go along, will try further tomorrow.

The bit I'm stuck on now is how to actually connect to my access point, now that the wg511t can see it. And should I be able to do all this from the control panel ?

try "sudo wlcardconfig"

yes that makes the wg511t lights do the same as they do when it is connected and has internet access in win98 - both blinking together.

However there is no internet access in DSL, and pinging the access point returns 'ping: sendto: Network is unreachable'

I tried DHCP client in the control panel but nothing happens, and 'sudo dhcp' just give command not found.

I think it is nearly there ... maybe just needs to receive an IP address from the DHCP server in the access point/router - should this happen automatically or is there a sudo command to use?
