I have DSL 0.8.0 installed on a hard drive. I can connect to the internet, but Links and Dillo are primitive browsers. I have a small network with a router, cable modem, print server, my DSL computer and two other Windows XP computers.

I am trying to look at my other computer's shared files on the local network. I don't have a clue about where to start. When I try to log on to my router with Dillo, I get an error message "401 unauthorized". When I try with Links, I get the router log in screen, then just text, rather than the graphic router screen.

I have no idea what to do to even try to look at one of the other computers.

Can someone please give me a few simple steps to get me started?

Thanks, cowboy

As far as the router goes, you might need to install the j2re1.4.2.uci .
This will help you run javascripted pages..  Also try the opera.uci or firefox.uci
instead of the smaller browsers.. Even if they work, the text is usually skewed .

Try the samba.dsl to see your windows shares ..
It works fine on my local net ..

Is this a "carpet bombing" approach to getting an answer to your problem, eagle_eye?

Cowboy was asking about shares and routers, not 8139's
It's not good form to hijack a thread..

Hi cowboy. I had the same results as you, so I installed Firebird from the DSL repository and all is good ................. give it a whirl.

EDIT

Dang, forgot about looking at other shares on the network. I haven't tinkered with that yet. However (I'm not at my DSL box right now), SAMBA should be the answer to that. Start the samba service if it isn't started by default, or install samba if it isn't present, then start it of course. Then ,,,,,,,,,,, Well I haven't tinkered at all with that yet, but if either Dillo or Links are smb protocol compliant, you would type for example smb://computername or IP/sharename. You will also want to add the computer name and IP to the hosts file on your DSL box.
