i have the linux on disk, so in order to save things to linux, will i need to install it to a hard drive. I want to no how to configure my wireless drive so that linux can detect the wireless connection, is they a way of doing this.

As long as your Wifi card is detected, the pcmcia managet is loaded it should work just fine man

If you chipset supports it get the wavemon.dsl [Wavemon wireless network signal monitor]

Its not the most beautiful thing in the world..but it works well with the proper chipsets
