For what seems like ages i have finally managed to get wireless networking with wep on linux.
I'm not going to list the amount of distros i have tried and the amount of cd/dvd i have burnt but i finally came across DSL.
After following the instructions from here i now have it booting from a USB pen.
so i thought i would share my experience and hope someone will benifit..
If you do then please reply and let me know!!
hardware:
PB Laptop running XP as the main OS Twinmos 256mb USB Stick DSL AGK-Nordic cardbus wireless lancard
Windows driver RT2500.inf
open a root (must be root!) window and navgate to where the inf file is. type the following:
ndiswrapper -i rt2500.inf ndiswrapper -m modprobe ndiswrapper then open the menu from the desktop and click system-net setup-netcardconfig
DO NOT SELECT DHCP * it did not work for me!
enter the ip address enter the net mask enter the broadcast enter the gateway enter the name server - you have to do this part otherwise you may not get internet access Enter the essid enter the ssid enter the wep code
and select the defaults for all the rest - unless they apply to you.
Here try the internet you may be lucky and it will work for you. it did not for me i had to do this:
go back to your root screen and type
iwconfig wlan0 key open
this worked for me so i thought i would share it!!!!!!!
I hope it works for you if so reply to this and let me know
