I was testing some image transfer tools after embedding these tools into  a DSL bootable CD.  To my surprise I found that the speed with which the transfer takes place is around 30 Mbps ( Between a server and client machine).  To make sure I tried "scp" command also between server and 3 client ( All of them are booted from customized DSL cd) for large files and found that network transfer speeds are very low.  When I execute the same set of tools on Mandrake 10.0 or other Hard disk installed Linux distros the speeds are around 90 Mbps.

Is there a reason that running these tools from  boot CD to cause a reduction in speed?

Is DMA enabled for your target hard drive on the DSL machine?

Without DMA, your hard disk transfer speed may be the bottleneck instead of the LAN speed.

Try "sudo hdparm" to view / adjust your DMA settings.

Yes,
DMA option worked for me.
When I issued
"hdparm -c 3 -d1 /dev/hda" right before the image transfer both on server and client sides I am getting 94 Mbps.  Hey Thanks alot for your help.
