Hi,

Using DSL .93 and just plugged in a USB Netgear MA111 adapter.  I'm having issues.

I've created a myprism2.sh file using the Prism2 option in DSL, but when I run it I get an error about it not finding the device.

I tried using the XP .inf driver with ndis wrapper, and that script fails too.  No device found.

iwconfig reports no wireless devices.  All I have is an eth0 which is the onboard NIC.

What am I missing?   I'm not sure I fundamentally understand what steps I am trying to invent so it isn't any wonder it isn't working.  P.S. When my DSL boots (EPIA 5000 mobo) I get an error, "modprobe: can't locate module block-major-2".  Is this some problem with the USB devices?

Hope you can help.  Have noticed user "tronic" has an MA111 working.  Thanks!!!  Brian.

edit:
I've also edited the script that myprism2.sh points to so that it references prism2_usb instead of prism2_cs.  Still no dice.  Also, looks like the block-major-2 error is a floppy (or lack of) issue.   8pm to 1am on this one so far   :(

Okay, 4 days and counting- here is what I know.

I've verified again that the MA111 works on a Win32 box.  I've tried it in DSL on multiple machines.  No luck.  The wlanctl-ng always fails with "no device found." Also, my MA111 proved to be a v2.  Should be no problem, as damnsmalllinux.org mentions the following in the documentation:

Here is a list of known cards that work "out of the box" so to speak. Little or no config required.
...
Netgear USB MA111 (v1 and v2)
...

Did this functionality break in a recent release of DSL, per chance?  I'm definately well outside the bounds of "little or no config required", even in Linux terms.

Hi...no...my Ma111 works fine...
=\

When you type 'dmesg |more' can you see it?
If you type 'ifconfig -a' what does it show?

Try plugging it in after the bootup.

Maybe everyone using the MA111 should post the FCC ID to see if they are using the same version of the device.

I have read reports that the version 2 devices are more troublesome in linux.

Well, mission scrubbed.  MA111 went back to CompUSA.

Cbagger is right.  v2 doesn't use the prism2 chipset and is apparently a relative Piece 'o crap.  The net is filled with postings of the device not working properly under everything from Linux to XP SP2.   Perhaps I can find a real v1 on ebay, or maybe someone knows of a true prism2 based USB WiFi adapter selling in the $20 range?  My "enclosure" is space challenged (as you can see below), so probably no room for PCI.

For reference, the MA111 v2 FCC ID was PY3MA111V2.
