Is it as simple as this to share a dial-up connection as well?

Can I do it while running 192.168.0.1 off of CD?

Hi,

Am also about to attempt sharing a DSL internet connection with my home lan.  Main reason is to try and put in some content filtering for the kids.

Have read a number of posts about internet sharing, 2 NICs in one PC, NAT, DHCP, etc and (I hope!) reckon I can get these bits to work.

I noticed that AwPhuch (alias Brian) notes his red, orange and green connections.  I also gather that he uses smoothwall.  So, if possible, could AwPhuch post some of the details of how he set it up?

Secondly, after trawling around the net, I have found a few linux content filters and it seems (to probably ignorant me) that one called 'privoxy' appears to be OK.  I would greatly like to hear others opinions of this packages - or any other packages that would be better.

Lastly, have also stumbled across a EU sponsored project for content filtering, specifically images, called 'poesia', the home web page is here. Has anyone tried this filter?

Once completed, I would be more than happy to share my experience at setting up the content filtered, shared internet with the group.

Thanks,

Geoff.

Yes. The computer considers a internet connection regardless of type (dailup, dsl, cable) a internet connection. You just have to apply some common sense and think.

"IP: 192.168.0.4 (this can be anything theroretically except 192.168.0.10 but 192.168.0.2 will work)"

Excuse my ignorance but why can it not be 192.168.0.10?

I believe if you tweak the rcfirewall.dsl you can tell it to do internet sharing with a simple firewall as well

Also I use a pre-built, ready to run firewall/gateway product called SmoothWall Express 2.0 which does about 99% of the work for you, and will run on comparable hardware (however it makes it a dedicated firewall) [oh and with a few of the MODS there, you can do dang near anything you want with it (dansguardian, guardian, dshield, full firewall control just to name a few)]
