hi all, brand new dsl/linux/unix user here, please bear with me and my numerous questions...

just made a dsl 1.1 live cd yesterday, and it boots up nicely (i thought i would be asked for a username/passwd... do i have a default username/passwd? how do i change it? how does that work?)

now i need to dial up and connect to aol... apparently i need to get wvdial? is that right? (another site was talking about penngy... do i need that too?)

how do i get wvdial/penngy onto my dsl workspace? do i go into windows xp, download the file, save it to a floppy, and then access the file from the floppy within dsl? (do dsl/linux and windows recognize the same kinds of disk formats? how to i grab a file from "a:" in dsl/linux? -- i tried fd01 but it didn't seem to work...)

i have aol dialup, on a dell inspiron 8200 1.4GHz laptop, 512MB RAM, with a Xircom modem

eventually, when the wvdial/penngy issue is worked out, when i configure PPP in dsl, do i specify PAP or CHAP or manual? static ins or dynamic?

i apologise in advance for the retarded questions... i have spent about 6 hours doing google searches, but it seems i'm not very good at it... i'm also getting tired of rebooting all the time, to switch between xp (where i try to find out how to get dsl to connect to aol) and dsl (where i still can't get dsl to connect to aol)

cheers :O
