You might test some of the Knoppix distros, these are the full (mostly 700 MB) in size, and have everything but the kitchen sink. If those work, you may have to stick with that. The DSL folks will make an add-on for popular items, (see the list of MyDSL add-on's linked from the DSL home page). It may be possible to temporarily use Synaptic to get the programs you need, but once you shut down the computer, they will be gone. Some of the others might jump in here and advise on how to do that, but in the end, your situation may require a full sized Knoppix to accomplish what you want. The Live CD is the way to go, however, big or small.
