Someone else posted a similar thread to this one over here... but I have something more specific in mind than he did.
I have what I gather is called a multi-drop email account, which is to say, I have a registered domain name, and my POP3 mail account at my ISP is devised such that all mails going to that domain name, regardless of what is to the left of the @, go into the same POP3 mailbox. When I collect the mails, they must then be sorted into different local mailbox directories based upon what's left of the @.
I have DSL installed onto the hard drive of an old Pentium I, and want to make that machine function as a LAN-accessible email machine. That is to say, I want to connect into that machine from any other machine in the house and read my mails, across multiple mailbox names. And when I reply to these mails, or send out new mails, I want that mailbox name to appear to the left of the @ with my domain name in the headers. I also want something where each mailbox is archived seperately, that is to say, where all the read messages get stored away independantly for each one.
Bear in mind, all outgoing mails willl be sent via SMTP through my ISP's outgoing mail system...
I'm hoping that there is a premade package available to do this, or that it is a simple matter to set something like this up. Someone was suggesting KMail as my best bet, but I know virtually nill about Linux.
