Hello!

I got a big problem with my RTL 8180 based Wifi Card.

I have tried to load the windows Drivers with ndiswrapper, and it worked fine. (Driver ready, net8180 Hardware present)

But, what should i do now? I can remember that under Suse Linux 9.0 the card started to work and was looking for Networks, but here is just nothing. No flashing LED, nothing in iwconfig nor ifconfig.

I need some help to setup my card. I know that it did work correctly in the past under another Distribution...

Thanks alot!

Hi again.

I found something interesting about that:

in dmesg i found "Failed to allocate DMA coherent memory. Windows driver requested 2042 bytes of cached memory"

I googled for it and found 2 lines that i have to add to my /etc/sysctl.conf

After i added the lines, nothing changed, so it still does not work.

Pls help me!!

I solved the Problem by inserting an old PCMCIA Wireless Card out of my broken Wlan-Router. The MAC Adress search identified the card as Prism2 Chipset card, and it works perfect! :)

Now, DSL is running on an Compaq Armada 1540D Laptop with Wireless Lan and everything.

System Specs:
150mhz Pentium MMX
16MB RAM
2GB HDD
CD-ROM, Floppy
HDD Install

Sound is not working...

rtl8180_linuxdrv_v15_rh90

http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/products1-2.aspx?modelid=2003052

http://www.realtek.com.tw/search/search.aspx?search=8180

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads1-3.aspx?
software=True&refdesign=True&spec=True&other=True&series=2002121

iv installed rh9 and compiled the above driver for both
standard wireless tx/rx and also as an access point driver.

iv tryed making live cd,s in the past but no joy but a standard rh install and compile of the above worked first time for me a newb LOL.

i hope some wiz might be able to compile this rtl8180 rh drive
for use with all the wirless combilations.

DSL,locust,whatever.

personaly im after 1 thing, a working http://uk.locustworld.com/  MeshAP that i can just burn to cd,
and use the rtl8180 11b cards i have and/or the http://acx100.sourceforge.net/ acx100 version 0.2.0pre8
driver that also works very nice at 11g rtl wlg-1201 /peak wpg2400 pci.

anyone fancy tying to make a fully working mesh with DSL
at its center ,1 version with the drivers above i.e not the usual Prism 2 chipset ect thats on EVERY linux cd out there so rtl/acx/WB140 E (usb ) people are up a creek without a paddle unless you can compile and tech stuff.

1 version with ALL the tools to compile, make a live cd should
you not have your driver on the first cd but one becomes available in time.#

the top and bottom of it is , a simple working mesh that can run off cd, usb drive, hd installed (easy as posible) and added to by your average end user that wants to try.

iv got loads of old dell 233 128meg/20gig working machines
that i'd like to mesh at both 11b and 11g for local friends to setup a community wireless useing them as the base backbone.

oneone seems interested in providing anything but Prism 2 chipset based options, locust seems like the best idea but they dont seem to answer email or see fit to provide a
web based message board, shame, such potential, wasted.

can YOU do better LOL i'm SURE you CAN........

WILL YOU ?....................

thanks for reading.

try to compile that official rtl driver it works good on RH, i hope it can work on DSL too.
