I'm a newbie to Linux so bear with me.

I have DSL up and running.

Just installed a network card, rebooted. Was hoping it would automatically configure itself or something upon startup but I got nothing.

Not for sure where to start as far as getting it going.

Any help appreciated

If it is a pci card, than running 'lspci' from the terminal should give you some info about the card, you can also run 'ifconfig' and check if you see your card as eth0. If you saw your card than you can try right clicking the desktop to bring up the menu. From there system->net setup->netcardconfig. Hopefully you will see your card in there. I dont really have a whole lot of experience in this area, but hopefully this helps.

I may be having different problems. Here's the scoop:

1) I tried unsuccessfully to install the network card in Windows 98. Since then, when I boot it up, before DSL is loaded, it says "Resource conflict - PCI Network Controller in slot 05 Bus: 00, Device: 11, Function: 00".

2) lspci gives several lines of data, this one included:

0000:00:11.0 Ethernet controller: Linksys NC100 Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet 10/100 (rev 11)

3) ifconfig gives:

Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0

RX packets: 2 errors: 0 droppped: 0 overruns: 0 frame :0
tx packets: 2 errors: 0 droppped:0 overrruns: 0 carrier:0
collisions: 0 txqueuelen: 0
rx bytes: 100 (100.0 B) tx bytes: 100 (100.0 B)

4) Netcardconfig fails.

Any ideas on what to try now? Any help appreciated.

Hmm... Possibly something to do with the drivers? I believe this card uses the tulip drivers, although I believe there are a couple of different versions of this card. What output do you get when running 'lsmod'? Does it say anything about tulip?

Got it to work!

I unplugged the card, started up the machine. Then when the boot prompt came up, i plugged the card back in. Worked just fine that way. A little bit of a pain, but it'll be an always-on computer so I'm not too concerned.

Problem now my two computers don't like sharing the router. I'll start a new topic for that.
