I finally got a Linksys Wireless WPC54G PCMCIA card to work in my laptop. I had been trying for weeks to get it to work in DSL 1.5. I decided to download the DSL 2.0RC2. I put a copy on  my old 400mhz and set it up with Fluxbox. I also put a copy on my laptop:

Toshiba Satellite 2535CDS
300mhz
96 megs of memory
6 GIG HD win98/DSL
QSI DVD/CDRW
JWM window manager

Anyway, I thought I'd give the Linksys card another shot. I'll try to give a step by step account.

1. Went into Emelfm and created a directory /windrivers.
2. Used the Linksys windows disk and copied all the files into the /home/dsl/windrivers/ directory.
3. cd /home/dsl/windrivers/
4. ndiswrapper -i LSMVNDS.inf
5. ndiswrapper -l got me: lsmvnds present hardware present
6. depmod -a
7. modprobe ndiswrapper
8. I GOT GREEN LIGHTS FLASHING!!!
9. Went to DSLpanel and then to ndiswrapper
10. inf file: /home/dsl/windrivers/LSMVNDS.inf
11. device: wlan0
12. sid: "my sid"
13: wep: "my wep key"
14. Got a message that said connected
15. Tried Firefox and was INTERNET CONNECTED!!!
16. Opened up /opt/myndis.sh in Beaver and copied the ndiswrapper setup.
17. Opened up /opt/bootlocal.sh and copied the /opt/myndis.sh info into it.
18. Saved the /opt/bootlocal.sh file and closed everything!
19. Rebooted and the wireless card worked on reboot like a charm!!!

I'm so happy I could ***t at this point! I can see that good old win98 will be going off of here pretty soon. That means I'll have to start from scratch again but with DSL it's no big deal. This new new DSL 2.0RC2 ROCKS in my opinion!!!

I am noticing one problem and not sure what to do about it.

I got the card working but it tends to sometimes hangup and freeze the whole laptop. Keyboard, mouse everything! I then have to force it down with the power button and then it won't boot all the way back up and then I have to reboot a second time.

Any ideas among the many DSL professors out there?

I'm finding that the problem is happening the most when I'm trying to use the "DSL Download Extensions Panel". It seems like one time it will try to access it but no list is in the panel after you click on the button of the section you want. I can close it and when I try it again it freezes up. I even connected to the net with Firefox before I tried the myDSL panel.

OH, I found that the actual driver loaded for this wireless G card is showing up as a Marvel chipset 802.11b. I'm semi happy at this point with the wireless setup if I can just fix the freezing part.

Oh, this is slightly off topic, but I didn't want to start a new thread:

DSL 2.0 RC2 is a big improvement over the previous versions (meaning <1.5) - NdisWrapper actually works, and the DslPanel now gives you error messages instead of nothing.

Belkin F5D7010. bcmwl5.inf: Yay! :D

I run this on my cheap $10 laptop (Panasonic CF-47) that didn't have a hard drive. Runs off CD and CF card in PCMCIA slot.

Now what I need is a easier way to renew the IP on DHCP.  :)
Edit: Found. Ifconfig works as usual (what was I thinking?)

And i'm experiencing the freezing problem as well.  :( (It only happens if you're using the network, if you're doing something else it's fine. )

The freezing may be, in part, due to excessive RAM useage. You may try making a larger swap file or partition. It will run more slowly, but be less prone to freezing up.
