So I installed DSL onto an old laptop I had. First off I'd like to say how neat an install it is. I was looking for something small to build to make a digital photo frame and it looks like it will fill my needs perfectly. Only problem I have is that I have one of these netgear wg511 prism based cards that I've been reading so much about the last few days. prism54 does not want to play with it. It's one that's made in china (not a version 2 tho) and even with multiple reinstalls and the correct firmware and , as far as I can tell, correct installation and settings, it brings up an error when trying to bring the interface up. (Don't ask me wwhich one as I've tried to forget it.) I have had success with ndiswrapper. but what I need to do is to stop the prism54 driver loading. Once I've rmmoded it after booting I find I can usually get the wireless card working. Yes I've read alot about modprobe and eveything that goes with it including (but not limited to) deleting the driver from /etc/modprobe and putting it on the 'blacklist'. Still it loads, haunting me, laughing at my feeble attempts to remove it from my laptops memory.
What I need is a be all and end all way to remove it from the loading procedure, to banish it to somewhere I feel that it belongs.. oh .. I do at this point realise it's not the prism54 guys that I should blame, but $#@! netgear and their habit of changing manufacturer and chipsets at the drop of a hat. Not to mention not supporting linux/bsd natively..
So can someone tell me if it's going to have to be a kernel recompile , and if so , how to do one, or is there something simple that I'm missing to stop this damn thing from loading?

And if someone else has done something with DSL and a digital photo frame it would be cool to ehar from you as well..

Thanks.

Well.. to answer my own question.. for others that might want to know.
add 'alias prism54 off' to /etc/modutils/aliases
then
run update-modules

odd.. as I've typed this I've gone back to look at the aliases file and the changes seem to be gone. but prism54 isn't loading...which is what I wanted..  this is a hd install btw..
