Hi,

I have a old Palmax Mininotebook (Cyrix MediaGX with CS5530 bridge). Mostly everything works fine now except for harddisk dma.

I use dma=on, however while booting the system states that only pio-mode is enabled... (I changed the settings in the bios but no change while booting at all)

When I use hdparm to set dma after booting, there is an IO-error. and still no dma...

With a Kanotix-Live-CD with kernel 2.6 dma works fine - but of course there are other problems with this too heavy distribution...

I also heard from other people who own this machine that dma works on it also with kernel 2.4.

On some older gentoo installation it also worked and there was a kernelmodule "cs5530". But on dsl I cannot load it because it does not exist.
Is this compiled into the kernel or is it just missing?

Any idea how to proceed?

With dma the harddisk is quite faster, without, music-playing is choppy...

Br,
Gatu
