I am running an Averatec 5500 Laptop. The processor is an AMD Sempron 2600+. Actual speed is 1600 mhz. The problem is that the default speed of the processor is 800 mhz to save battery and it kicks upto 1600 when processor use is heavy...only if that is built into the OS. Windows (ack) and SuSe (9.3) will speed up the machine, but DSL doesn't apper to be doing this.

Any fixes / solutions? Anyone else run into this?

DSL has a 2.4.x linux kernel, but I do not know if it supports CPUfreq for Semprons.

CPU speed control was not compiled into the DSL kernel, due to size restrictions.

Perhaps your bios has a setting that will let you set the throttle from there? I have my Dell running at 600MHz on battery, and full speed on a/c, if speed control is not supported in the OS.

That cpuspeed isnt a kernel option or mod..its a program that dynamically changes the speeds...look at the readme

to use this program. Your kernel must be compiled to support the "userspace"
CPUFreq governor and the "sysfs" interface on Linux 2.6 or the "proc"

Is DSL compiled with CPUFreq built in?

Thanx for the CPUSpeed link. Last night my gf *washed* my DSL booting USB key in her jeans. I'll give CPUSpeed a try after a quick trip to the store for a new key

I'll post if it works in case others have this issue later.
