Well just for the record, here is what I have:
Inspiron 8200
2.0GHz Pentium4 with SpeedStep (disabled- of course) 1.0 GB PC2700 DDR (upgraded from 512) 40GB HDD 4200 RPM 15" LCD Resolution up to 1600x1200 @ 32bit color USB, PCMCIA and Intel 810 audio all working! Modem and 10/100 Network card (intel too) also working! All Keyboard keys work, special Dell keys will need a keyboard map that I'll provide eventually, so watch here for it!
I have installed, my Linksys Wireless-G card and it works flawlessly. I can even change the MAC address of it and it will work just fine =)
Let's see, the HD install is painless, not all settings are redone on install but it's well worth it. I have a 1GB swap (just for kicks I suppose) and the other 38GB for linux... no harm there. I may install a few other apps like openoffice for kicks, but we'll see.
I've tested playing DVD's (I installed OGLE to do that), CD's, mp3's with XMMS, irssi, xchat, and a few games here and there. This runs perfectly. Either i bought a great laptop or I have some luck with linux on laptops b/c many others seem to have massive problems they can't or unwilling to fix (themselves)
Anyways, hope this might help for people that want to use linux on their Inspiron 8000 series model.
