I also had noticeed an old post re: pcmcia not starting. I found this link that should prove quite helpful once I am able to see what it is I am trying to do.

maybe you should tell us what exactly you mean with "not working properly". For example on my old Compaq lappy I had to edit the xorg.conf file because it did not want to work in 800x600. Before this it always came up with 640x480, no matter what I tried...

What I was trying to relate was the screen was pretty much unreadable. Somehow I must have been screwing something up (read:picking wrong options) but have now got it to work beautifully in FB800x600.
