Hello, i have the toshiba satellite 4600 laptop.

It will only boot if i do: fb1024x768 acpi=off

Once i do that, the laptop runs dsl linux great...only issue is that it will not turn off the lcd with this command:

xset s reset
xset s on
xset s 2

When i run this command, i get no errors of any sort. It's like it just ignores the request or something.

Any ideas?
-Thanks

Since you're not using acpi, did you try using apm?

Maybe something like noacpi acpi=off apm=on
Probably easier to confirm by looking up another thread, or docs, etc.

ok, so it seems that if i don't have noapm in the bootcode, then apm loads. But how do i check it, and more importantly, how do i shut the screen/backlight off using apm?

I tried the various xset commands, but those don't do anything.

-Thanks for any help.
