DSL is fun
Burnt it to a CD
Had an old Toshiba 300 CDS with a burnt out HDD and decided to give it a whirl. Didn't it boot up. Took a couple of tries for me to install it to ram with the lowram option. It went pretty good until it got to the processor and stalled. Won't go any further.
MMX Pentium 166
It won't go any further than that.
The laptop is old (I'd have to find a way for it to get onto the internet / it doesn't have a network card ; ya, she's that old) and if it doesn't work it wouldn't kill me. But to get it to work would sure be fun.

Ideas?

Hey

A whopping 96MB
I thought that DSL could run on as few as 50MB
And as far as the rest of the hardware goes is a basic monitor (I want to say TFT but I can't say for sure)
3.25 diskette drive
CD reader (but not a writer)
Firewire but no USB
And that is pretty much it

Thanks alot
Whatever help you can give is appreciated
Still funning around with my DSL USB key and optimizing the settings. But having the super old laptop work would justify to my wife why I have kept the thing for so long.

The RAM requirement (~16mb for a basic gui) is not the same as the physical/storage space requirements (50mb)
The DSL image is only copied to RAM if the 'toram' bootcode is used (128mb+ of RAM recommended).

How are you using a USB key if that system has no USB?

I'd suggest to try booting with lowram and failsafe to start with... see the wiki page on cheatcodes for more info
