I'm happily running DSL on a Compaq Presario 1270 laptop. I noticed today that the internal 4GB drive is making an odd noise. I thought it might be worthwhile to have it replaced, except I am unable to find documentation on how to take the system apart to replace the hard drive.

If anyone has experience with replacing a hard drive on this system, I would be interested in hearing the details and any warnings as well. Thanks in advance!

I am following up my original posting to let people know, that there are Service Manual for some of the Compaq laptop's online, such as the 1270 I was looking for. Here is the link, where you can FTP the PDF service manuals:

If you go to:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/supportinformation/consumerdocs/MaintServcGd
and browse you were see ranges for other models.
