I've had DSL for a few months and it's up and running just fine on my old Dell Inspiron, but I think it's time for me to move on and try other new things.

I'm trying to install FreeDOS to the hard disk of my DSL laptop. FreeDOS partitioned and formatted the drive, and successfully copied the FreeDOS files to the new primary bootable Fat32 partition. However, I can't seem to change the boot sector of my hard disk! GRUB won't go away! When I start the computer without the FreeDOS Live CD, it goes in to GRUB (DSL is removed but GRUB remains).

Any tips on how to fully uninstall DSL and GRUB? Thanks in advance.

If you have a bootable dos diskette you can try to run: fdisk /mbr   (if don't have one, you can get it here: http://www.bootdisk.com/)

Otherwise, if you want to wipe your disk you can run "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda" (without quotes) from the DSL live CD or from the diskette distro tomsrtbt.

Thanks skaos. Recently I read that solution elsewhere on the web, but it wasn't what I used to remove the bootloader. I used cfdisk to create a new partition, and then ran the FreeDOS LiveCD. During the setup process I was given the option to free up all the space and create a new Fat32 partition, and then FreeDOS reformatted the drive. This wiped the GRUB bootloader.
