Hi there all, not sure if this is the correct forum for this, but I was wondering if anyone was making a toshutils dsl package.

My reason for needing a package is that my toshiba portege can not connect to the internet, so any package for it must be standalone.

The .dsl, .unc and .uci packages work a treat, making life much easier for me, as I have lots of trouble installing anything more difficult than that (not very technically minded).

I was hoping there were enough toshiba laptop users out there to justify making this package....

http://packages.debian.org/unstable/utils/toshutils

I have replaced the hdd in my Toshiba Portege 3010 with a 2 gig CF card, which works wonders under DSL, extending battery life to around 3-3.5 hours, but toshutils will allow me to dim the screen somewhat, which hopefully will stretch the battery life to 4 or more hours, which is far better for me at uni, as not every room has enough power points.

It is cool to see the look on people's faces when they see this old computer running faster than their much larger and newer models, and for longer.

Given that toshutils depends on 17 other packages (which might well depend on yet more packages in turn), the .dsl risks to be large in size for (perhaps) not much functionality.

Doesn't your laptop have a fn key that allows you to dim the screen?

Pressing Fn and F1 turns the screen off and on, but pressing Fn and the other F keys wont turn the screen brightness down.

I see what you mean by it being quite a large (potentially) .dsl file.

I have looked at the wiki and might see how I go trying to convert a .deb file to .dsl, time permitting.

Changing the hdd to cf has saved me quite a bit of power consumption, but the screen uses approximately 6 amps/hour based on some info I got off the net on toshiba portege power consumption, so if I can manage to cut it in half for example, I am hoping to be able to reduce the power consumption from its standard 11amps/hour down to 5-6.

I have changed the screen brightness to semi-bright in the bios, but even if the .dsl file is a bit big, might give it a try to see if toshutils gives enough benefits to make using it worthwhile.
