Along with the ThinkPad 701CS, I also got a somewhat faster Toshiba laptop.

The battery lasts about 3 minutes.

It has a CD-ROM, which Windows 95 refuses to recognize, one USB port, which Windows also doesn't recognize, IRDA which is also not recognized, two 16bit PCMCIA slots, which the BIOS doesn't recognize, but the floppy is recognized, a serial port that I haven't tested, an untested parallel port, a working VGA port, and a 4gb hard drive.

I need help using a parallel port CD-ROM... obviously.

If you are going to start collecting old laptops to play with, I would do one of two things.....

1. Get a laptop that has a working CD drive. Pop the drive out of these old laptops, put it in the newer one, do the DSL install and then put the drive back in the old laptop.

2. Get a ide/sata to usb adapter and us it on a newer laptop or desktop to copy the DSL iso or knoppix files to the old hard drive then boot the old laptop with a floppy and pass the parms to boot the iso or knoppix files from the drive.

Good luck

Chris

I'd do the hard drive file install, but the screws for the hard drive tray are stripped.

I do have one spare CD-ROM. I could try that.

The good thing about DSL is that it detects hardware every time it boots so that makes it very simple to install it with one computer then put the drive in another computer and do a basic boot up without issue.
