Thanks, found one!

using dsl xsetup vga=787 after hitting F2 at the boot prompt got mine working

Now I just have to get in on to the hard drive so it's faster than my 16MB of ram can make it from the cd!

Thanks for your replies. Managed to get it working at 800x600 16bit with dsl xsetup vga=789. It's a bit slow though, even scrolling a page in dillo is painfully slow.
