Thanks cbagger. Had done some searching, not much around about this laptop at all, except relentless uninformative web sales.
There is a yahoo forum dealing specifically with Amilos and linux - that might be helpful for other models - where it was said that it hypothetically should boot[I], but all way too vague.
The centrino versions are way expensive. On to try Acer I suppose.
