The same problem in Satellite Pro 4600. DSL boots only to info about processor. In 'failsafe' or with 'nopcmcia' it boots until X is going to start. But then, again freeze. PROBABLY there is a detection of graphic card (on this Toshiba - some Trident). BUT TRIDENT DRIVER FOR LINUX DOESN'T WORK IN HERE! Even other linux distros can't run X with trident driver. (they work with vesa) SO- it is probably needed to run X with vesa or fb1024x768 mode.
so probably this should work - boot: dsl nopcmcia acpi=force fb1024x768 vga=791
I can supply you more info on my e-mail. (i will probably won't go there again)
-------------- Prepare yourself; NWO is incoming... And in the meantime, use Linux:D
