Hi everyone,

I've recently gotten a compaq armada m300 laptop to use as a linux testing computer (I use windows mainly at work due to custom applications needed), and I have DSL and mepis on right now....although more DSL because they don't get along for booting.

Getting a Orinoco gold Wifi card from ebay soon, my wife's worked great, and all other hardware was found right the first time (including the wifi when plugged in at boot up).

The only thing that wasn't working with the laptop when I got it (other than the battery, which isn't even there) was the CMOS battery was dead.

Now that I have gotten to radio shack to change it, I need to know how to set the time in DSL....the bios setup is very limited, and time isn't an option. Then I can check that the new battery is working.

I don't think you can do it from a GUI but you should be able to use the date and hwclock commands from inside a xterm.

date can be used to set the current date/time in DSL. This won't save the time to the hardware clock so you'll then need to use hwclock to set the hardware clock from the current system date/time.

I can't remember the exact syntax so use date --help and hwclock --help to find out what options they accept.

Hopefully it is more clear that date --help, I can't figure out the format for that one.

Nope. (although as I side note I seem to have screwed up my HD install.....maybe try frugal this time....can't get to GUI now!)

The hwclock can set the clock to the system time, but I have to figure out the date format to do that!

You can also usually change your hardware clock from inside your computer system BIOS setup screen.

Try pressing F1 or F2 at boot time and see if you can get into your BIOS and change the date/time there.
