I'm not sure which forum to try so I'm giving this one a try...

I have finally located some actual linux based drivers (kernels 2.4.x and 2.6.x) for a USB Wifi dongle (WLAN - ZD1211U). Having downloaded the tar.gz file and untarred it I am supposed to run the "make" command. I am in a root window (bash) and everytime I type make it just says "command not recognised".....any ideas why this is and how I can run this???

EDIT: I also forgot to ask, based on some previous threads about frugal v hdd, I understood that running frugal on my P133Mhx, 32MB, 1.4Gb laptop was the best option. I have set aside 128MB swap as well, I notice that when I run opera (or dillo) that my memory usage only goes upto about 28MB and my swap to 90MB, my CPU can be anwhere between 20-80%, but its still really slow...is there any "tweaks" or anything as such I can use to speed things up?

The only tweaks that I am aware of are to do a full hd installation.

Frugal works great on almost all computers, but there is a small amount of overhead involved with doing the transparent decompression of files on-the-fly.

However, you will never get screaming performance from such an old CPU and 32MB of RAM.

Other tweaks you can do are:

Boot with the "lowram" cheatcode, or manually choose the "Minimal" Fluxbox theme.

Try a lower xsetup.sh screen resolution / color depth. 800 x 600 x 16 bit color instead of the default 1024 x 768 x 32 bit color will give you a small but sometimes noticable performance increase.

Boot with "noicons" to get rid of the desktop icons and the dockapps in the slit. All of these programs will use some memory. In total, you might save 4-5 MB of RAM usage in the worst case scenario.
