so i have this old ass laptop sitting around that I have been trying to get some form of linux running on it to use as a web browsing box. I got NetBSD running on it fine, but Xfree86 and any program in it runs slow as ass, and I want to be able to have a gui.
here are the specs of the laptop: 16mb ram pentium classic 133mhz 1.5gb hdd floppy drive (1) usb port
i'd like to install DSL as the native OS, i suppose using the frugal install method. I was hoping I could boot off the floppy and use my USB key as a substitute for the CD. However, the laptop disagrees. I boot off the floppy fine, but then it doesn't recognize the USB drive, and drops into the very limited shell. It seems that it isn't even recognizing the USB port, since the usb key light isn't on, showing its recognized. i have checked the bios for any USB related settings, and there are absolutely none. so, being a newb and all, i'm clueless.
anyone have any ideas on how to get this working?
