Trying to use xMMs on DSL 2.0 with an HP Pavilion ZX5000us
laptop.

I am a COMPLETELY new Linux user.

Been trying to following some of the threads here to try to resolve my problem.

When DSL boots, the screen displays the following:

Soundcard: unknown vendor unknown device 1002:4341 driver=unknown

Code 1002:4341 appears to be the PCI ID code for
ATI Technologies IXP150 AC'97 Audio Controller

Sound does work when I used Knoppix 4.0, the same sound card
statement at boot up displayed driver=snd_atiixp.

I don't get anything when I do modprobe snd_atiixp with DSP 2.0

I tried performing the instructions associated with ALSA but
it didn't appear to help, either....though I'm not convinced that I
completely 'install' things when I download the three files
into the system via myDSL: gnu_utils.dsl, dsl_dpkg.dsl, alsadebs.dsl.
They download into /tmp.  I don't do anything else with them prior
to doing 'install ALSA' on the myDSL menu.  Still nothing happens
when trying to play something with xMMs.

Have I missed anything fundamental or crucial here?

Thanks for any help anybody can give!

The alsadebs.dsl extension is only supported for DSL versions 0.8 through 1.5

There is a new alsa.dsl extension available for DSL 2.0 series kernels and it is located in the mydsl testing area.  Give it a try.

Thanks for the tip.  I'll give it a try on Turkey Day
and post my results.

To be clear, this file replaces alsadebs.dsl in the
files I download?

I also do not have to do anything further with each
of the files once they are downloaded into the
system via myDSL?

Thanks,

Yes

Read the alsa.info file for more detailed information.

OK!  I am a happy person.  The new alsa.dsl file works
and I've got sound.  Thanks, cbagger01!
