Hi folks,

I need to recompile the kernel which requires installing kernel-source.  But I could not find the kernel-source by running apt

# uname -a
Code Sample

Linux box 2.4.26 #1 SMP Sa Apr 17 19:33:42 CEST 2004 i686 unknown

.
# apt-cache search kernel-source
Code Sample

kernel-source-2.2.10 - Linux kernel source.
kernel-source-2.2.19 - Linux kernel source for version 2.2.19
kernel-source-2.2.20 - Linux kernel source for version 2.2.20
kernel-source-2.2.22 - Linux kernel source for version 2.2.22
kernel-source-2.4.10 - Linux kernel source for version 2.4.10
kernel-source-2.4.14 - Linux kernel source for version 2.4.14
kernel-source-2.4.16 - Linux kernel source for version 2.4.16
kernel-source-2.4.17 - Linux kernel source for version 2.4.17
kernel-source-2.4.17-hppa - Linux kernel source for version 2.4.17 on HPPA
kernel-source-2.4.17-ia64 - Linux kernel source for version 2.4.17 on IA-64
kernel-source-2.4.18 - Linux kernel source for version 2.4.18
kernel-source-2.4.18-hppa - Linux kernel source for version 2.4.18 on HPPA
kernel-source-2.4.19 - Linux kernel source for version 2.4.19

Where can I find the kernel-source-2.4.26  TIA

Go to www.kernel.org select mirror near you.
Most mirrors have 2.4.26 kernel.
Then grab kernelsource.dsl from the repository System area.
Knoppix uses a standard kernel. The knoppix patch is included in the kernelsource.dsl as well as the .config file.

Hi roberts,

Tks for your advice.

Quote
Go to www.kernel.org select mirror near you.

Now I have download;
linux-2.4.26.tar.gz
linux-2.4.26.tar.gz.sign

Please advise how to check the former with the latter in the absence of md5sum text file.

Then grab kernelsource.dsl from the repository System area.

Whether you meant running;

# apt-cache search kernelsource.dsl
no printout

Others noted with tks

Not sure how to check the .sign against the source, but you can get kernelsource.dsl from here - apt-get won't fetch it, because the MyDSL stuff isn't an APT repository, AFAIK, and it's not mentioned in /etc/apt/sources.list.

Hope this helps.
