./dpkg-install.sh line 3: /etc/init.d/mkwriteable: no such file
tar:usr/bin/dpkg-split: Read-only file system
/usr/bin/dpkg-restore: apt-get: command not found

pw1, have you done a HD-install? Some of your errors look like you're running live (?).
The dpkg database can only be re-installed when the filesystem is writable.
