I'm trying to use DSL on my old 486. I don't have a PS/2 port, so I have to use a serial mouse.

I don't have an actual serial mouse, so I am using a PS/2 --> serial adapter.

DSL doesn't seem to recognize the mouse. I've tried running 'mouseconfig' and tried all the COM ports, but none of them seem to work.

Any suggestions?

Does it boot up to a graphical interface? (but no mouse)
Also, what version of DSL are you using? I do have one machine that
can boot DSL 0.6.2, and has a serial mouse. The mouse works, but I cannot
move the menu around, or grab any window by the titlebar and move it around. Also, I cannot move the scroll bar up or down in Opera.

You can check if the mouse is working with microcom, first kill X with crtl-alt-backspace and then run:
microcom -D/dev/ttyS0
If moving the mouse doesn't produce anything, try /dev/ttyS1. If that doesn't work, then either your mouse, adapter or serial port doesn't work.

Yes. X would start, but I couldn't use the mouse.

The mouse I was trying to use has a scroll wheel. I switched to a 3 button mouse and everything is fine now.
