I just installed DSL1.5 and am having a great time with it but I have to change xtdesk back to double click.  This single clicking on the icons is driving me nuts.  I have looked around for a config file, but to no avail.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

I'd say it'd be set in $HOME/.xtdeskrc
Example file:

table Config
 #FontName: 9x15
 FontName: -misc-fixed-bold-r-normal--15-140-75-75-c-90-iso10646-1
 FontColor: #d0d0d0
 ShadowColor: #505050
 ClickInterval: 500
 IconWidth: 64
 IconHeight: 64
 Fixed: true
 CaptionBackground: no
 CaptionBorder: yes
end

Can't say from experience, but that's the only setting that seems to have anything to do with a double click

Nope. Sorry.

The single-click icons were hard-coded into XTdesktop.

It's not switchable.

Once you get used to it, two-click icons seem clunky.

What's the extra click for?

To prevent accidental click.  There have been several times I'll click the edge of a window to scroll or shade and miss, clicking the desktop instead.
The single click thing isn't an issue for me at all, though...i don't use icons =o)
