Hi, How can I play .wav files that I download? I get the following error message when I try to click on it in Emelfm:

libasound.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
libmikmod.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/usr/lib/xmms/Input/libcdread.so: undefined symbol: playlist_generate_shuffle_list
libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
tar (child): .xmms/Skins/myxmms-default-1.01.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

Do I need to install some new packages? Is anyone able to play wav files on DSL? Please help.

None of those error messages are directly related to playing audio...they all occured during the initialization of xmms.  The first ones are common in DSL, caused by missing non-vital libs.  The tar error is uncommon...apparently your skin file is corrupted.  I don't think that would prevent xmms from playing a file.

Do you have audio working in general?

Yes, I can play mp3 files very well using xmms. I didnt try playing other kinds of media files though. Is there something additional that I need to download to play wav files?

Well in confirmation..I get the first errors aswell and as said they are caused by non-vital libs that have been removed in dsl..but xmms opens and plays mp3 and wav files and I can click open in emelfm..perhaps a snd card issue?I noticed that on some cards the volums are differently controlled..may seem silly but if the xmms opens and there is no sound..check the various volumes..this happened to me in haste. if is seems rude

Thanks. I checked the volume settings. They are all set to the highest possible volume. This time I rebooted my computer and now I dont get the last four lines of tar errors. I still get the first four lines of errors. What kind of sound card issues can it possibly be? It is amazing that I can play mp3 files but no wav files.
