Nano-ITX Computer The Damn Small Machine!
The Damn Small Machine now in stock!
Mix a slick little case, the brand new Nano-ITX technology**, and one 256MB DSL booting USB pen and you have a Damn Small Machine.
What's in it?
On-Board VIA EDEN Nano 800Mhz (Fanless)
On-Board (embedded) 256MB DDR266
On-Board 10/100Mbps LAN
1 x UltraDMA 44p IDE connector
2 x USB 2.0 ports (one at front)
This little machine boots Damn Small Linux from a USB, and is very responsive with our little desktop. The DSM truly is a little machine, and it is 100% silent. If you are worried about security, just take the drive (the USB pen) with you.
How small is it?
Check out this screen shot. This is the DSM sitting in front of a Mini-ITX pc and next to a CD case. It truly is tiny!
Here is a shot of it with the USB pen, and hooked up to the peripherals. It isn't on in this shot, I was afraid of the bright blue LCD light drowning out the rest of the image.
Speaking of the peripherals, here is the back end. Yes, sound does work with DSL!
I popped the hood to give you a shot if the Nano-ITX inside. Sorry that the photo isn't better quality.
The case is made from a thick die cast and it butts right up against the CPU heat-sink to ensure fanless heat transfer, and there is a thin plastic film which needs to be removed from on top of the heat-sink before you boot your DSM. Overall, this is a very nice compact package with an integrated supply.
**The motherboard is not the production Nano-ITX board which will be sold individually when Via finalizes the specifications. This board is made specifically for the unit you see here. It has integrated ram and the Nano Eden N processor.
Price? Just $375.00, and that includes a 256MB USB pen with DSL pre-installed. By importing the DSM directly we are able to keep the cost down.
