User Feedback :: I'm very pleased, DSL helped me to save my files

So did the modprobe work?

Some devices require you to rmmod the associated usb driver (like the backpack microsolutions USB CD-RW drives) before doing the USB2 modprobe command.

Why?

Because the driver gets attached to the usb1.1 device driver and then refuses to recognize the USB2 driver.

However, standard USB Mass Storage devices should work just fine.

You can check the status by running the usbview myDSL extension in the repository.

My guess as to why this driver is not autoloaded is that it is still relatively new and may cause problems with some rare strange USB controllers or devices.  So it is safer to not autoload it by default.

However, the DSL USB boot floppy will autoload it so that is one way to get there without playing the unplug-modprobe-replug game.

HEY- I want a pink icon!

DSL has saved my system a number of times.
I used it to copy the entire windows partition
to a directory. Add the partition sector and the MBR to it.
I copied it to a CD, and the next crash took 3 minutes to
recover from. AWESOME! Thank you DSL - guys.

Great to have a dsl_gal. Welcome to DSL!  :)
