Can DSL setting be saved to a thumb drive?

I try to save my setting by going toSystem, Backup/Restore in the desktop menu. I type in the name of the device to save to. I started by using a floppy disc.  I enter floppy in the box that appears, when I hit backup I get a "Invalid Device" error

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Read dillo, that's the reason it pops up at start, it contains basic instructions.

Also i'm confused by your post. do you mean your using a floppy to boot the cd? if so the floppy is for boot only, your suppose to save the settings to hd,usb,external drive...
for the floppy it's /dev/fd0

to backup to thumbdrive, you must find out what device the thumbdrive is called.
usually it's sda1 (if it's the only usb storage).

more info about device names;

Are you remembering to mount the floppy before trying to save to it?
The info presented in Dillo is helpful but sparse. Twice I've banged my head against this issue (so I'm a slow learner) and discovered the problem was I'd entered the full pathname of the device. All you have to enter is the "sda1" for a USB flash drive or "fd0" or whatever device you're looking for. (I believe a floppy drive is usually fd0. I installed one in the last box I built, but I've never actually used it!)

For a USB flash drive, it doesn't even have to be mounted. I don't know if floppies are treated differently.

Perhaps if the prompt window made it clear that "/dev/" was already assumed it would be less confusing?
