Hello all,

Sorry if this is a done-to-death topic, but I am pretty much completely in the dark when it comes to Linux (yes, I have been brainwashed by microsoft....)

My question is this: a friend recently acquired a virus of some sort on her XP machine that rendered the SATA drive 'unformatted' as far as any windows OS is concerned. Following other forums, I found DSL... I have created a DSL boot CD and have successfully booted into the DSL environment. My problem is that I would like to access the SATA drive to see if I can recover any data from it, but I cannot see any HDD's in emelFM (only the boot CD and floppy drive).. probably because I do not know how to mount devices etc.

Can anyone explain where/what commands I need to use in order to find/mount the HDD in order to then transfer data to a safer location?

Your help is much appreciated, really saving someone's life here (of course, no backups!!).. and apologies again if I sound like a stuck record, but Linux is a foreign language to me right now.

The latest DSL does not have SATA support.

Either try DSL 2.1b (last one to have them I think) or DSL-N (..or Knoppix if nothing helps).

To mount (in DSL's gui), you can use that tool on the bottom right corner.

Thanks for the reply.. I had a growing feeling that SATA was probably unsupported.. at least I know its not only down to my [Linux] incompetence!
