I used this:

1. Quit X (ctrl+alt+backspace).
2. Run xsetup.sh.
3. Select your desired resolution, then select USB mouse.
4. Run startx.

Hello, since I have a similar problem, I figured this would be better then posting a new thread:

I have a Generic 520PCI Serial Mouse + Wheel, I managed to get it going in the default Xserver (Xvesa) with xsetup.sh by choosing 3 button, ttys0, and 520 DPI.

The problem is whenever I try to set .xserverrc manually as 5button, my Xserver crushes:

I think its a bug rather then a misconfiguration, but I would like your input on this...

what are you doing to change to 5-button mouse, and when you say 5, do you mean mousewheel? I don't think DSL's x supports more than 3 push buttons (just a guess, though)
